A CAPACITY BUILDING, COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND MOBILIZATION PROGRAM IN LATINO COMMUNITIES AROUND PRE-EXPOSURE PROPHYLAXIS (PrEP)

PrEParándonos (let's "PrEPare ourselves") is a community mobilization and engagement model, designed to look at PrEP from a structural intervention perspective by addressing: availability, accessibility, and acceptability (the 3 A's), as well as awareness and adherence.
PrEParándonos is created in response to the needs identified by the Latino Commission on AIDS as part of focus groups and town halls and capacity building work among service providers serving communities at-risk, as well as clients who would benefit from and desire PrEP. The communities at-risk include but are not limited to:
August 27-28, 2015
November 12-13, 2015
December 2-3, 2015
January 4-5, 2016
February 6, 2016
PrEParándonos seeks to enhance/strengthen the capacity of service providers and communities and with regards to PrEP
At the training, each participant will learn how to assess individuals and populations at risk and develop a customized action plan to address infrastructural and community needs to reach the populations for whom PrEP is appropriate and desired, including support for medication adherence.
Learning the latest advances of HIV prevention will increase your set of tools as service provider
The training targets providers within health and human services, who work with individuals at risk for HIV, peer educators and community outreach workers. Clients are also welcomed.
The staff will create an environment where ideas will fly
PrEParándonos is taught by a diverse team, with years of experience working in the Commission's capacity building assistance, health policy and Advocacy, and linkage and access to care divisions.
The program is tailored to the audience to best suit their needs by collecting information from a pre-training survey
The training covers the research behind PrEP, strategies to implement PrEP, the A's that affect PrEP uptake, the effects of stigma, strategies to educate and empower clients for PrEP use, importance of partnership development, and much more.
All the Commission's services are culturally sensitive and PrEParándonos is not an exception.
The training is provided in English and Spanish where needed. Training in Puerto Rico will be provided completely in Spanish.
